Central Commons includes 29 units of high-quality permanent affordable rental housing for seniors aged 55 and older, comprised of eight efficiency and twenty-one 1-bedroom units.
Central Commons is a certified historic, adaptive reuse project that completely rehabilitates the vacant Central building, one of five historic buildings that comprise the core of the Stevens Commons campus in Hallowell Maine.
This project contributes to the larger effort to revitalize this underused historic property in downtown Hallowell into a multi-use campus with a range of residential offerings, business and commercial spaces, and recreational uses.
The scope of work for the adaptive reuse of the approximately 25,000 square foot Central building included construction of new housing units within the existing structure, including kitchens and baths and new appliances, along with an on-site laundry room, community space, and tenant storage.
Efficiency units range from 484 to 573 sq/ft, and one-bedroom units range from 580 to 754 sq/ft.
Central Commons is a desirable place to live, a good neighbor to have, and an asset to the Hallowell community. Central Commons responds to the need for in-town, affordable rental housing for seniors in Hallowell.
